“Average hotel, not many other options”

I decided to try the Baymont Inn during a recent visit to Baytown, hoping it would be a better choice than another hotel where I stayed last year. As anyone visiting Baytown knows, there aren't many options in terms of lodging beyond the usual low-end motels, so I thought paying a little more might translate to a more comfortable stay.The room itself was average size, but the bathroom did seem a bit small, and was tucked away in its own room like a dorm. The kitchenette was adequate for my needs (with the exception of Chili's and a few other chain restaurants, the area really only offers fast food dining). The furnishings were fairly new, but the furniture did seem slightly worn. The TV was small and mounted to the wall in a position that wasn't optimal for viewing.A few technology issues: First, they gave me a slip of paper with a password for the in-room wi-fi when I checked in, which had to be re-entered several times throughout the day. Most hotels keep your access open for at least 24 hours. They also changed the password during my stay but did not notify me, which was irritating.Second, the business center is in desperate need of a new computer. The room has one computer and a printer, so anyone who needs access to a desktop to do more than they can on their phone will be disappointed. I used the business center to search for a flight, but the computer was so slow, the pages would either time out or the prices would change while they were loading. Eventually, I simply gave up and called airlines directly.Regarding safety, I was unhappy to find that the exterior doors were kept unlocked, even though there is a key card entry for each one. Many of the other guests in the hotel seemed like transients or young adults partying, so I wasn't entirely comfortable there.The laundry room was also another challenge. I asked the front desk clerk to change a few bills for quarters, which she did only reluctantly. A change machine would seem like a good idea, or having plenty of quarters on hand for guests. One final issue was is the smell of the room. Almost any place in the area that has carpet, curtains, or upholstery has a strong musky, moldy smell because of the humidity, and the same was true at the Baymont Inn. Be prepared for the smell, which gets worse when using the AC.Overall, I'd rate the Baymont Inn below average for the price. While it wasn't a terrible stay, I have seen much better quality in the same price range.
