“There's Better in Hopewell”

I wish I had taken my own advice and booked a different hotel halfway through my stay in Hopewell. The Baymont was extremely unsatisfying. When I arrived in my room, it stank. One of my classmates described the smell in his room as "butt." To me it smelled like stale smoke. The bed was shaped like a "U" and was very old and creaky. The shower had the water pressure of a feeble cough. The water pressure in the shower was so poor, that if my wife had come there would have literally been too little water for her to sufficiently wash her hair. The temperature was also wildly variable, ranging from ice cold to scalding without moving the handle. The "continental' breakfast featured stale bagels, frozen waffles, cereal, and sliced bread. The staff assistance was poor to mediocore. Upon arriving, I asked "Jordan" at the desk if there was a better entrance to drive my car around to for my bags. He told me the front entrance would be most efficient. After lugging around my huge two-week luggage through the labyrinthine halls, I finally managed to find my room... directly next to the rear parking entrance. Thanks Jordan. I called Jordan later that same day for extra hangers that never arrived.And yet, I would have stomached all of this. I have stayed in barely-passable hotels like this before without complaint. I have one criteria that makes or breaks a lengthy hotel stay: Connectivity. The hotel had wifi. The signal strength in my room was strong. And yet, consistently, throughout my two-week stay, 9 out of 10 websites I tried to visit timed out. My connectivity was never suitable enough to Skype the wife and kids I was forced to leave at home for two weeks. The connectivity was so bad it would have been better off not to try. I made a complaint to the front desk and "Jordan" told me he was surprised, that other guests had complimented the connectivity. This surprised me, as the other students in my class had the same issue and made the same complaints. After borrowing a CAT5 cable from "Jordan," I attempted to connect through the wall port, only to find that the wall port in my room was disabled.In short, my stay at this hotel was a collection of abject failures. The one high point was Wednesday's "Customer Appreciation," a styrofoam plated serving of free frozen food. I partook, and then my group and I went out for a real meal. There is a Fairfield a mile up the road that serves a hot breakfast. Staying on per diem? Stay at the Fairfield and thank me later.
