“Dirty Room, Stinky hall, Floodlight shining in room, and Safe "Tax" SCAM, but decent breakfast!”

  , Plano
The first 4 items below are the problems we experienced during our 1-night stay, while the 5th item is a positive comment:1. This Baymont has a Scam where they charge a safe "tax" that you must ask to have removed. Probably most people see the word "tax" and assume they must pay it, without realizing it's a scam. It's NOT a tax, but an optional fee if you use the safe.2. Bathroom and bedroom were dirty (when we checked in I found black crud on the carpet that obviously wasn't vacuumed, I could kick it around with my shoe. There was a used washcloth hanging on the shower curtain rod and crumpled paper on the bathroom floor that no one bothered to clean up after the last guest) All I can say is that someone made the beds and put clean towels in our room before we checked in but didn't actually clean anything. We had gotten in late and needed to be up early the next morning so we didn't complain or ask to change rooms.3. Floodlight outside shines into window around curtain. I woke up at 2am thinking it was the morning sun shining in the window. Interestingly, this floodlight is located on the Days Inn next door which shares the same parking lot. I'm guessing they must have some feuding rivalry and perhaps this is the way the Days Inn tries to drive customers out of the Baymont? Well, I wouldn't stay at either one of these places now! We were also awakened at 6:30am by a 4-year-old running up and down the hall, but this is not the hotel's fault.4. Hallway smells like cigarette smoke. We had a non-smoking room, and all the rooms around us were non-smoking. Perhaps if the hallway were aired out and the carpet cleaned this problem could be solved, but cleaning is not a priority at this hotel.5. On a positive note, the breakfast had more variety than most hotels of this caliber (scrambled eggs, sausage, hot and cold cereals, fresh fruits, bagels and bread, waffles, juices, milk, coffee, and tea), and the people working at breakfast did a good job keeping the food replenished so they did not run out of anything. People at the front desk were friendly and efficient, and it's not their fault their hotel is unethical and has these other issues.
