“What a Mess....”

Got to Hotel at approx 6:30 p.m. Saturday 6/22/13. The place was average busy in the check-in area. The desk clerk girl informed us that our room was not ready/available and a non-smoking room would not be available for the night at all. Wife had called a month ahead to ensure at the time of booking. Anyway...we were told it would be about 45 minutes more minimum. She took my cell number and said she would call when available. Around 730 P.M. A tour bus arrived and the chaperon was told that they were five rooms short of their allotment at this time. Not having left the lobby area, we waited and then I got in line to check on our status. I explained to a male desk clerk/manager who was up front with the girl now that I felt we had waited our maximum and to please check our room status...He seemed unhelpful at best so I told him that the girl had waited on us about an hour ago....I got in the Girls line this time and when I inquired she seemed not to remember...By now I told her that since my cell was now at only 5%, I needed to stay nearby...she proceeded to check in a couple more guests and hand them their room keys. Finally she turned to me and said she was checking. She gave us the keys...finally we could get rest. We went upstairs only to find our door ajar and several hotel room staffers out in the hallway seemingly in a state of exhaustion and despair. One of the ladies informed us that we could leave our things inside and they would properly complete our room.This was around 8:15-8;30 P.M. I did not return to the desk and fully sympathized with them. We walked to a local eatery and by the time we finished it was close to closing for them so about 9:45 pm. We went to our room and it was cleaned and prepared sufficiently as promised except it smelled of smoke...I am one of the last people on earth to complain and I understand most situations are remedied. This is one that should not persist and caused many travelers an important rest. We were up at 7:00 a.m. and out...We did tip the maid staff well and hope they got it... They could not believe that we were sent up and actually pulled off of another room to ensure our room was completed. There was no use reporting this to staff at the desk....I think they realized it but either labor problems or poor management that day had manifested into a total mess...
