“Reservation snafu”

I had reserved a 3-person, non-smoking, king-bed suite online and received a confirmation email for that reservation five days before we arrived. When we got to the hotel, no such suite was available. We were placed into a conference room converted to a sleeping room. The room was huge and empty, had bright overhead can lighting, one comfortable chair and a desk chair, and one desk lamp. I went to the lobby to read in the afternoon, as the room was not a pleasant place to sit, but the TV in the breakfast room was on, although there was no one there, and the noise was too distracting for reading. The king bed was a very low, uncomfortable Murphy bed, on which the reading lights did not work. The sofa bed was also quite uncomfortable. We were awakened by a telephone call from the desk at 8:30 the next morning, telling us we needed to vacate the room by 10:00 am (normal check-out is noon), because the room had been double-booked and needed to be cleaned before a meeting. The staff was nice and apologetic, and we received a $40 credit on the room rate for the forced early departure. We did have a place to sleep, but it was one of the more unpleasant hotel stays I have experienced. We decided not to take advantage of the breakfast, so can't comment on it.
