“Meh.”

This place could be a lot nicer. It is well situated, convenient to New Haven by car. It was undergoing renovation and will probably be nicer once this work is complete. At the time it was rather shabby, with masking tape marking the room numbers and paint stripped from the hallway walls. Once the work is complete it will be better. The room was moderately comfortable. Breakfast was good, but the breakfast room really needed more attention from the staff to keep it clean and well-stocked. Overall the experience was decent, but uninspiring.I did have a very suspicious incident. I received a phone call from the in-room phone purportedly from the front desk. The caller stated that the hotel computer system had crashed and that they had lost all information on their guests. He then solicited me for my contact and credit card information, promising a credit to my account (for $40 or so) to apologize for the problem. He had a thick Alabama accent and was nervous when I asked how long he had been in Connecticut. Everything about this was suspicious, so I ended the call and contacted the front desk. The desk had no knowledge of the problem or the call, indicating that this was an identity theft scam. The night clerk made an incident report and promised to contact the manager to discuss this problem. In the morning I checked again and while the report was still under review the staff present seemed remarkably unconcerned that some con artist may be misrepresenting them in an effort to scam their guests. I have never encountered anything like this in all of my travels and it left a sour taste in my mouth.
