“Really not worth the money saved.”

I travel to Scottsdale every year and have always stayed at different hotels around town because I'm usually booking far in advance and can get a good deal. We had to get into town quickly for a funeral and decided to stay at the HoJo because there wasn't a ton of availability at our usual places. Well, you really do get what you pay for -- I will definitely spend the extra 30 bucks a night and go to the Hampton Inn next time. The rooms (we had 2 for my group) had a laundry list of issue between them. Among the issues:-A door that would not lock properly, even after maintenance worked on it. This resulted in a room change.-A massive dead cockroach on the bathroom floor that appeared to have been there awhile, indicating that the rooms are not cleaned with the frequency one would want at a hotel.-A leaking mini-fridge that was dripping water all over the bathroom floor into the bedroom. When I informed the front desk clerk about this over the phone and asked if they had paper towels or something to clean the mess up, not only did she snap at me that I would have to come get towels myself, but when I did get there, she handed me two tiny hand towels and I had to work to get her to hand over more since that was not going to sop everything up.-One of the towels placed in the bathroom that was supposedly "clean" had some disturbing dark marks and what looked like old make-up stains on it.Obviously, this wasn't going to be a nice place for the price, but it should be clean and the staff should at least pretend they aren't completely miserable people. I've stayed at roadside motels and lower end hotels plenty of times, but I've never really had these kinds of issues.Additional note: the pool is locked until 8 AM. I realize that few business travelers would ever have to stay somewhere this cheap, but I would be frustrated if I was trying to get in a swim before work if I was in town for a conference or meetings. As a non-business traveler this time around, it was merely annoying -- it's generally quite warm in Phoenix before 8 AM and it would have been nice to hang out by the pool in the morning (especially if you're coming from another time zone and get up at your usual time).
