“The Straw that Broke the Camel's Back”

I have stayed at this motel many times. My aged & ailing father lives in the area, & I have traveled there many times to see him & to attend to his business. I was first drawn to Baymont because it had a 4.0 customer review rating. In reality, it is not a 4.0 motel. Average, yes, 4.0, no. I've wondered if people are being paid to submit good reviews for it. Or maybe Baymont's customers don't get out much, or they have low expectations. Perhaps the motel is able to project a "good face" for the one night those passing through town may stay, but if you remain longer, you'll find a variety of deficiencies, from non-functional electrical outlets to problematic doors to faulty hair dryers, broken sink stoppers, dirty carpet, etc.Over the long haul, I have extended grace to this motel, in overlooking or discounting a lot of the negatives, but recently the grace was trampled under foot. My father's situation has been tenuous, at best. There have been times when I have had to unexpectedly extend my stay at Baymont for many days due his health. The last time I was there, I was in a state of limbo, so to speak, not knowing whether I would be able to depart for home that day, as planned. When I asked the staff about late check-out, I was told I could stay an extra 30 minutes, because housekeeping would be going home, & they needed to clean my room before they left. They had a short day, as not many people had stayed at the motel the previous night. I felt that my loyal & extensive business should have bought me some favor in my situation. It wasn't like the hotel was full. It wasn't. The room I was holding probably wasn't even needed that night. There was the possibility that I would even end up staying in it another night or two. (I did stay 3 additional nights at another motel in town.) But there were no exceptions for the sake of kindness. No grace extended to me. No breaking of the rules to assist a customer in an needy situation.I will not go back to Baymont. If they do not value their customers any more than they valued my business, then they don't deserve it. If they are unable to extend grace to their loyal clients who are in need, then they don't deserve to have it extended to them. When money becomes more important than humanity, a change is in order.
