“Fair hotel, Terrible Reservation system”

  , Jacksonville
Stayed at this hotel two years ago when it was AmericInn. Loved it. Has definitely gone down hill. No hot items at breakfast, except waffle maker. Had a horrible experience with reservations. Drove to Iowa a few weeks ago to see my mother whose health was declining. A day after we returned to FL, my mother passed away. Had to make a quick turn around to come back to Iowa. On the first trip, we stayed at the Hampton Inn because we had heard that the manager and some of the staff had starting working over there. Had a very pleasant stay. Baymont was running a special on suites so I tried to book online. I had difficulty so I called the 800 number listed. A lady with a strong Indian accent answered the phone. I explained what I needed. She made the reservation, but then relentlessly tried to sell me travel services. I kept telling her that I wasn't interested. Finally I agreed to "listen" for a $100 gift card just to get her to stop. Never received the gift card by the way. When I checked into the hotel, the lady at the desk looked a bit confused and said that she had 3 rooms reserved under my name for 5 nights. I questioned her to be sure it wasn't other out of town family. I asked what we needed to do to cancel the other two rooms and she said she couldn't cancel them because I did not make the reservations through them. I explained that I called the 800 number listed on the Baymont's website. She told me that I would need to call them back to cancel the rooms. I asked if she knew the number. She said no. Seriously! She doesn't know the number to her own company's reservation line. I found the number in my recently called numbers and once again got an man with a strong Indian accent. He told me that he could not cancel the other 2 rooms because it was outside the 24 hour cancellation time period. By this time, I was really getting upset. He transferred me to an American customer service rep who did cancel the other 2 rooms. By the time, I got to my room, I just fell apart. It was too much to handle while also dealing with the death of my mother. Oh, and there were cracker or potato chip crumbs behind my night stand the entire time I stayed there.
