“So-so”

Our first room had a musty smell, and the next one we tried did as well, but eventually we got a satisfactory room. The beds were comfy and facilities adequate but nothing special. The breakfast room was undersized for the crowd on weekend mornings. Long version of the issue: Our original room had a musty smell, that seemed to be coming from the bathroom. After a few hours, we went to the front desk to see if another room might be available. The staffer at the desk offered us another room key but we found it to have the same odor. The staffer suggested that it was due to recent carpet cleanings, and when I remarked that it seemed to be coming from the bathrooms, she said that was not possible. We left the desk with no further resolution offered. In the meantime, we made arrangements to split up and stay with family in other rooms at the hotel (which both smelled fine). When we went back to the desk to request a cancellation of our room, there were suddenly more available rooms offered for us to examine. We eventually found one which smelled fine, and was actually an upgrade over our original room. So the outcome was positive, but the process was more difficult than it should have been.
