“Stink. Stink. Stink.”

I was stunned to find there was a hotel that still allowed smoking. But our friends were staying there so signed on for a non-smoking room. The whole hotel reeked liked an old-time bowling alley. Never again. And I am an ex-smoker. The breakfast buffet was a bust. The sausage and eggs could not be eaten. By me or anyone of the 20 people in our group. The security door on the rear of the hotel was broken. No problem, management said. We have video surveillance in the hallway. Great. Guess I shouldn't have locks on my house. Just a video camera to record what happens next. Lastly, apparently the housekeeping crew walked in on my 11-year-old while I was at the front desk. Scared her to death. When we returned that evening, room had not been cleaned. Front desk said housekeeping gone home for night and our room was checked off as not wanting housekeeping. My daughter said there was no discussion of that. She didn't even know it was housekeeping, especially since it was a man. Manager said room would be cleaned the next day. When I said that was unacceptable, manager replied "Tough." Several witnesses in our group. When I made it clear I don't bully, manager then also refused a discount for that night. Said I already had a three night stay discount. When I told him that, too, was not going to be acceptable, he finally said: Well, I could clean it myself." Fine, I said, and he and a helper spent a good five minutes changing sheets and dumping a load of towels. No bath towels on check in, either. Forgot that. Very bush league. We are staying in Boone, Iowa next week and I had a chance to book Baymont. Guess what? No way.
