“Operating on a shoe string”

This hotel used to be a Quality Inn and we liked to stay there. I searched hotels Haubstad, IN and found that the Quality was now a Baymont. I went ahead and made a reservation thinking it would still be basically the same. Wrong. I had requested a suite on the third floor. When I checked in I was told that those rooms were already taken, but they could upgrade me to either a Jacuzzi suite or a two-room suit. I opted for the two-room. It proved to be on the first floor, but I was assured that it would be quiet. When we entered the room it was just two adjoining rooms, one standard king bed room and one with a sofa, a flat screen TV and kitchen cabinets over the lavatory, but no frig or microwave. Also, there was no remote for the bedroom side, just one in the sofa room and it didn't work on either TV. The light over the only chair suitable for reading also didn't work. The manager, who was alone in the hotel, was very nice and personally trucked a frig and microwave from another room and brought a handful of TV remotes and tried them until one worked. The number of channels was quite limited and almost appeared to be over-the-air antenna sourced. The hotel website did list frigs and microwaves in all suite rooms. On the plus side, the room did prove to be quiet and it was very clean. The breakfast area was large and nicely set up, but pickings were a bit sparce and there was no orange juice and little fresh fruit. The overall impression was that they didn't have to funds to make the hotel what it should be.
