“Statesboro Blues”

  , Atlanta
Our non-smoking room reeked of cigarettes when we opened the door and there were ashes all over the telephone when I picked up the receiver. I was trying to use the phone to call the front desk to let them know that our tv remote did not work (missing the back piece and the batteries were being held in place by scotch tape which obviously was not doing its job). After pressing the Guest Services button twice I finally realized that I was speaking to someone at the local hospital, not the front desk, and was told this is a common occurrence. I then went down to the lobby to speak to someone directly and was told that the next time I should press "0" to reach someone. I told them that I had tried that as well only to hear a fast busy signal. It was then explained that the reason for the fast busy was because someone was using the cordless phone, but now that the call was over, pressing "0" would work. The young man at the desk did move me to a different room immediately and was helpful.
