“Average Hotel and Unremarkable Stay”

  , Seaside
We were traveling across the US and this is where we stayed on our way to the East coast. This is a Wyndham property and there wasn't anything to stand out to make me want to stay here again. The location is very convenient, but getting into the hotel can be a bit tricky if you aren't paying attention. Also, you can't leave the way you came back in, so you just have to look around a bit. Since we were traveling with our dog, we didn't have a lot of options for places to stay, so this was relatively inexpensive and didn't charge an additional pet fee. I was surprised by how nice the room was. Outside of the rooms, the hotel is dated, old and a bit musty. It looked a bit sketch too, but the rooms made up for it, inside. I got the feeling this wasn't the nicest part of town and wouldn't recommend females walking around at night, alone. The rooms have the vanity and sink outside the bathroom, so that was a bit weird, for me, but just an observation. Also, you can tell the "remodel," was a lipstick job when you look at the old mildewed caulking around the sink and stuff like that. However, for what we needed at the time, we got a good night sleep and it was a clean place. The service is an entirely different story. The first girl spent more time outside of the lobby talking on her phone or just generally not working. Nobody working here was dressed professional and I can't even recall if they were wearing Baymont shirts. The girl on the day shift had a sloppy hoodie over her shirt, so even if she was wearing a uniform shirt, it was covered. Additionally, it was un-tucked and completely unprofessional. She was nice enough when she helped you, but she didn't give me any inkling that she cared about her job. The other lady was nice as well, but when I went out for some hot water in the evening (around 10 PM) she was sleeping at the front desk. Again, generally disheveled with the un-tucked shirt, etc. Clearly, this particular Baymont is not trying to differentiate itself based on their "superior customer service." Pros:- Cost-effective for a decent place to stay- They accept dogs- Right off of I-40- Updated/remodeled room Cons:- hotel common areas not updated- Unprofessional staff- I didn't have a great level of comfort about my security staying here and the downstairs exterior door was broken
