“Missing customer service and cleanliness”

I knew this was an older hotel, so I wasn't concerned if everything wasn't new and updated. However, the two important things to me in a hotel were missing: customer service and cleanliness. The gentleman behind the counter barely greeted us when we checked in, never smiled or made us feel welcome. I later found out he was the manager. :| We got to our room and it seemed nice enough (king suite). I had to clean up old donuts that were on the floor right under the couch (who knows how long they had been there), replace the toiled paper when we went into the bathroom (2 pieces left on roll), call for 2 more towels (only 2 in a room with 4 people) and call down for sheets/blankets for the pull out couch bed. I had to wait an hour for the bedding as the manager was the only one working that night and was waiting on someone to get into work. The bottom of the tub was peeling off as well and the vents had layers of dusk caked on them. There was never an apology for the wait times or lack of service. The second night we checked my mom into her room and it smelled like smoke. This is supposed to be a non-smoking hotel as well as signs saying "no smoking" in the room. She also noticed ashes on one of the comforters. When we went down to get her another room, nobody apologized. They just gave us new room keys to a different room. The bed was comfortable, the suite was spacious and it was quiet, so it handled my basic needs. The breakfast in the morning was decent as well. No friendliness from staff at any time. If you *had* to stay somewhere and other places are booked, this place will do, but don't expect stellar treatment and check your room thoroughly.
