“After years of using this hotel, we will not stay here again!”

The desk clerk gave us our room key-cards and when we used them, it opened the lock to an occupied room! Luckily the unfortunate guy, who had been asleep, locked the inside safety lock so we couldn't fully open the door. But we did wake and upset him. I went back to the clerk, got different cards, went back upstairs, moved all of our belongings, used the key card, and it opened the lock on another occupied room! I headed back downstairs to the front desk and the clerk met me halfway with a third set of cards. He came upstairs with me and opened an unoccupied room. Just one of the two cards worked. He said "I'll run another card up to you right away." I'm still waiting for the second key card (we checked out 2 days ago). We attended our family function, came back to the hotel around 1AM, went upstairs, tried to get into our room, and discovered that the card the clerk left us with was the one that didn't work! Back downstairs to the front desk, had to wait 5 minutes while the (different) clerk took care of a person questioning rates, and told him the whole story and that we were not happy with the service. His only reaction was "Oh wow!" No apology for the inconvenience. There were also several maintenance issues: first, and most importantly, the toilet seat had not been properly cleaned. Disturbing, to say the least! I told the night clerk about it but nothing was done. Also, the lock on the bathroom door was falling off and the spout in the bathtub had pulled away from the tub. The toilet was also very noisy when filling, and it took a long time to fill. The drain in the tub could not keep up with the volume of water so we were standing in 4 inches of soapy water while trying to rinse off. We have been using this hotel for years when visiting family in Branford. We will be staying elsewhere next time.
