“Unhappy”

While we were out of our room, 2 coolers that we were transporting were overturned (we assume by housekeeping) & the contents of 1 leaked onto my guitar case which was leaning against the wall. The guitar ($3,000 value) was not damaged, but the case absorbed the liquid that spilled out of the cooler. When the manager was shown the case (I had to bring it to him at the desk...he would not come to the room) he at first offered to take 15% off the bill which was unacceptable to me. He assured me that the situation was not intentional. I then told him that intentional or not, there needed to be a more realistic remedy. After much discussion, he said that the best he could do was $50 off the bill. Having grown tired of dealing with a man who obviously did not understand how to run a business, I said that I would take the $50, plus $20 to get the case cleaned. When he refused this, the head of security, who had been in on the entire conversation, took $20 out of his wallet & gave it to me. I told him that I did not want his money, but he assured me that he would be reimbursed for it. I do not enjoy being confrontational, but it certainly seemed to my wife & I that the first words out of his mouth should have been to comp the room, & then ask what else could he do to make it right. But, he had no real interest in making it right! Paul Land
